Wonder
He sticks with you in the hardest of times, never too busy to lend a hand.
He comes by with a meal when you're alone in the dark.
He laughs at your jokes, and is quick and free with hugs and hand-holding.
He listens to your pain, he cries with you, he holds you
Through funerals and lost pets and old boyfriends.
He watches over you, silently protecting, not judging, like a stone golem.
And yet one can't help but wonder,
Does he sit alone in the dark himself?
Does he have someone to listen to his pain?
Does he have someone to lend him strength?
She's near when you cry, she's there when you need a hug,
She supports you through the night, expecting no return.
She listens intently as you talk of leaving the world.
She projects her faith in you like a lighthouse beacon
That burns away fear, and doubt, and pain.
She watches over you, silently protecting, not judging, like a stone golem.
And yet one can't help but wonder,
Is she held when she's feeling alone?
Is she protected when she's afraid?
Is anyone there to listen to her without judgement?
I can't help but wonder at how these two can
hold others up so high,
and be satisfied with whatever falls from above.
I can't help but wonder at how these two can
carry their worlds upon their shoulders,
expecting no relief.
I can't help but wonder at how these two can
continue on tirelessly,
shouldering the burdens of other's lives.
And I can't help but wonder
What could happen...
