A Look Back with Director Joseph Cwik:
" 'Finis' was a short I created in order to work with the Detroit Filmmakers
Coalition in an effort to get a grasp on filmmaking in 16mm. Jeff and Ben
were both working on For Pizzas Sake and
Exits and Entrances at the same time. The story actually
was a backup. The original thought was to be completely different and shot
in a small coffee house. It was supposed to be a comedy...
But the location was turned down, so I had to come up with another idea.
" The film was scripted as a drama, and was to take place outside at the
curb of the with a streetlight shining down on the two actors. It
was very similar to the original location for The Solace of Night. Our
only problem was that there wasn't enough light to facilitate our needs,
and we didn't have access to what we would need to do the scene there. (and
my neighbors would have probably killed us for using all those lights
outside.)
" 'Finis' stars my best friend/psuedo-brother, Larry Kahsin, and his
girlfriend, Amanda Moss. I have to thank them immensely for being under
those lights for so long, putting up with me, and waiting for Jeff and I to
get the lighting right. I'd also like to thank my parents for living in the
basement while we shot this short. I love you all."
