Introduction to MVS
| Basic software, hardware, and structured programming terminology and concepts for working in an IBM mainframe environment. |
TSO/ISPF
| Upon completing this class, participants will be able to explain and
navigate the TSO/ISPF menu, library concepts and command structures,
and to productively use TSO/ISPF's online text editing capabilities. |
OS/JCL
| Participants learn how to write and implement new IBM OS/JCL, modify existing code, employ standard IBM OS utilities, and construct and override IBM OS/JCL procedures. |
VSAM
| Participants learn how to access VSAM files in either COBOL or PL/I programs. |
COBOL or PL/I
| In this session, participants learn how to use efficient structured
coding techniques, write COBOL or PL/1 code from scratch, test
and debug programs with minimal assistance, interpret program
specifications, and create adequate data to test programs. |
DB2
| Participants learn how to code SQL/DML statements efficiently, use
SPUFI/QMF when working with a DB2 database, write batch programs
in COBOL or PL/1 that access DB2 databases, and generate appropritate
host language structures for DB2 table definitions using the DCLGEN panel of DB2. |
CICS
| Upon completing this class, participants will be able to use features of
BMS, apply the internal workings of CICS, use most CICS APIs, and code
CICS from scratch. They will also have been exposed to the concepts of
first-time processing and have utilized the latest programming techniques. |
IMS (DB and DC)
| This class teaches participants how to use the basic features of MFS, code
basic IMS call sturctures (both IMS DB and DC), apply IMS database
concepts, and use IMS data communications concepts. |
Problem Solving
| Participants are taught the proper approach to resolving logic problems and
how to identify ways to separate the primary elements of a problem from
the secondary, less important ones. They also learn how to expedite
problem resolution and the importance of restarting a task if errors are detected. |
Professional Business Skills |
Participants learn the skills necessary to refine their time management,
business writing, interviewing, and professional etiquette skills. |
Tools |
Towards the end of the program, participants will be introduced to different Compuware
tools: Abend-AID, File-AID, Xpediter/Batch, and Xpediter/CICS. This not only exposes them
to Compuware tools but it also allows them to get a better understanding of their projects. |
